Everything we do at FBCS is so that people will know and follow Jesus. We believe that Jesus plus nothing equals everything. There’s nothing more important than following Jesus; nothing more important than a personal relationship with Him.
Are you wondering how you can begin following Jesus? Well, it’s not through following a set of rules, attending church services, or even being a good person. The only way to have life free from sin and guilt is through a relationship with Jesus Christ. And the only way to have a relationship with Jesus is by receiving Him as your Lord and Savior.
To help people understand how to begin a relationship with Jesus, we use a simple process called “The Five.”
God loves you
God created you to have a relationship with Him, and He loves you deeply. Jesus made this clear when He said, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). God created a perfect world to enjoy with mankind. However, Adam and Eve, the first man and woman created, decided to sin against God.
Sin separates you from God
When Adam and Eve decided to sin, their decision allowed sin to enter the world and separate all people from God. Sin is simply anything we do in disobedience to God and the Bible reminds us that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). While God loves us, our sins have created a barrier that keeps us apart. This division keeps us from having a personal relationship with God.
Jesus paid for your sins
The cross is where the story changes. Though sin has separated us from a personal relationship with God, Jesus came so we could be made right with Him. Our sins deserved to be punished, but Jesus took that punishment for us. He died on the cross to pay the debt we owed. “The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Jesus died for us, offering salvation we could never earn on our own.
Jesus brings new life
Jesus didn’t stay dead—He rose again! His resurrection means that death no longer has the final say, and we can have new life in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” His victory over the grave means eternal life is available to all who believe. He makes all things new! As we follow Jesus, He begins to make us more like Himself. As John put it, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
What will you do with this truth?
Faith is trusting in what Jesus has done for you through His death on the cross for your sins. The Bible reminds us “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). We’re told in Romans 10:9-10, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
What will you do with the truth of Jesus’ love and sacrifice? Will you choose to follow Him? Salvation is offered to you today, but you must decide. Will you repent of your sins, believe that Jesus died and rose again, and commit to following Him?
If your answer is yes, then you can pray now, asking Jesus to save you. Confess your sins, ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, and surrender your life to follow Him.
